The first design in our new Spoonflower collection is now live: a Lavender pattern, drawn from the plant that opened our Botanical Library, now available as fabric, wallpaper and home goods.

Botanicals & Company has always been a project about paying closer attention to plants, their history, their chemistry, and the evidence behind how we actually use them. This is a new way of doing that: taking a botanical we have researched properly and letting it become something you can actually put on a wall, a cushion, or a length of fabric, rather than only something you read about.

Our first pattern is Lavender, which felt like the right place to start. It was our first complete Botanical Library monograph, and it remains one of the plants most people already feel some affection for, even before they know anything about its chemistry or its long Mediterranean history. The pattern draws directly on that research, on the plant’s real form rather than a generic stylised sprig.

What’s actually available

The Lavender design is available through Spoonflower as fabric by the yard, wallpaper, and a range of home goods printed on demand, so nothing is manufactured until it is actually ordered. This is the first pattern in what we intend to be an ongoing collection, one design at a time, each one drawn from a botanical we have already researched properly for the Library.

Supporting research into burns and wound healing

As with the rest of Botanicals & Company, 10% of proceeds from this collection will go to Florence Ellen Research, an independent grant-making initiative supporting research into burns and wound healing, named after a nurse who spent more than twenty years caring for children with burns. Payments are made quarterly, within 30 days of the end of each quarter, in keeping with how we handle our other giving commitments. You can read more about Florence Ellen Research, and the reasoning behind supporting it, on our News page, or visit florenceellen.co.uk directly, though the site itself is still being built.

Where to find it

The Lavender design, and every pattern we add after it, is available now on our Spoonflower shop. It is the first of several designs we plan to add over time, each one, like everything else on this site, drawn from a botanical we have actually taken the time to research properly.
